McAvene launches Stoplight Sessions

'Stoplight Sessions' by Matthew McAvene.  Watch McAvene create songs out of thin air through his original 'One Take'  songwriting approach. Stoplight Sessions was conceived to utilize the time at stoplights, so McAvene started carrying a guitar in the car which has led to an ongoing songwriting video sketchbook while driving, parked, hiking or in his art studio.

SANTA BARBARA MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY'S 100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY GALA

McAvene's planets were featured at the 100th Year Anniversary Party for the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, on March 4th 2016. The planets defied gravity above guests as they dined and celebrated the Museums birthday. IDO Events designer Tamara Jensen hired McAvene with the big bang celestial vision in mind. The planets were created originally for the Santa Barbara Summer Solstice Parade (see video in TV) and required refurbishing and retrofitting to be used as decorative pieces for the Museums Party.

Mission Creek Gala

Initiated in 2000, the annual Mission Creek Gala is a festive evening to celebrate the work of the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History and generate support for its scientific and educational mission of inspiring a passion for the natural world.

The Mission Creek Gala sustains the Museum's outstanding education program which touches the lives of 20,000 school children each year through school tours, classes, storytelling, camps, the Nature Collection lending library, and outreach at the Mission Canyon campus and Sea Center.

In celebration of the Museum’s Centennial year in 2016, the Mission Creek Gala will be an extraordinarily special event. Committee members from the past 16 Galas were invited to return to help create this unique, once in a lifetime fundraiser. Guests can expect beautiful décor, sumptuous cuisine, and dancing into the evening, all to raise funds for the incredible Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. McAvene will be featured at a group art show called Artists’ Balls.  The opening is December 11th from 5 - 8pm at The Arts Fund Gallery.  McAvene will have a piece in an aspect of the show called The Ball Wall.

McAvene's Art Submission

The 'Ball Wall' featured at the group show challenges each participating artist to make something with a plastic translucent ball, similar to those found in bouncy houses. McAvene used the balls to create these one of a kind sculptures. Here are a few pics of McAvene's process in transforming a plastic ball into an extraordinary work of art. The sculptures are posable and can mount to a wall or stand on a table top.
