McAvene's planets were featured at the 100th Year Anniversary Party for the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, on March 4th 2016. The planets defied gravity above guests as they dined and celebrated the Museums birthday. IDO Events designer Tamara Jensen hired McAvene with the big bang celestial vision in mind. The planets were created originally for the Santa Barbara Summer Solstice Parade (see video in TV) and required refurbishing and retrofitting to be used as decorative pieces for the Museums Party.

Mission Creek Gala

Initiated in 2000, the annual Mission Creek Gala is a festive evening to celebrate the work of the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History and generate support for its scientific and educational mission of inspiring a passion for the natural world.

The Mission Creek Gala sustains the Museum's outstanding education program which touches the lives of 20,000 school children each year through school tours, classes, storytelling, camps, the Nature Collection lending library, and outreach at the Mission Canyon campus and Sea Center.

In celebration of the Museum’s Centennial year in 2016, the Mission Creek Gala will be an extraordinarily special event. Committee members from the past 16 Galas were invited to return to help create this unique, once in a lifetime fundraiser. Guests can expect beautiful décor, sumptuous cuisine, and dancing into the evening, all to raise funds for the incredible Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.
